Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel (The Netherlands), 20 November 2009 – Following consultations with renowned figures in the health care world, Fagron Nederland, the specialist and market leader in pharmaceutical raw materials and pharmaceutical compounding, launched the Fagron Inventivity Award last week.

An ongoing need for innovation drives the world of medicine. Innovation saves lives and makes patients’ lives easier. Compounded preparations often go hand in hand with the latest options for medical treatment and meet an important need. Medication may often not be available in the most appropriate form for administration or a certain dosage may not be available for certain groups of patients. A customized drug, prepared by a pharmacist, will in that case provide a suitable solution that a physician can use to provide customized care. A patient’s adherence to a therapy regimen and his or her quality of life can only benefit.

Physicians are well able to identify their patients’ individual needs. Fagron supports them with ready-to-use compounded drugs. Working with medical specialists Fagron pushes the envelope: going to the outer limits of the possible in order to meet patients’ needs even when small in scale.

The launch of the Fagron Inventivity Award underlines this partnership. The Fagron Inventivity Award provides special recognition for medical specialists in a specified area of the profession who devote themselves to innovation in health care. The primary focus here is on new formulations and on new ways of working together. The Award is first being launched amongst dermatologists with the first award scheduled for end-2010. Fagron is in discussions to make the Award to other medical fields in the future.
